A man suspected to be a Boko Haram leader was today arrested by men of
the Joint Security Task-Force, on Friday morning, in Hotoro area of Kano
state.
The suspect, Mohammed Sulaiman who is now in custody of security operatives said to have come in from Abuja, was arrested alongside his mother, wife and five children. The building in which he was arrested has also been demolished.
A security source that took part in the raid described Mohammed to the AFP as Boko Haram's head of operations in Kano under the group's suspected leader, Abubakar Shekau.
Sources say the suspect hails from Ogbomosho in Oyo State.
Items recovered during the raid include 10 military grade explosive devices, about 1,000 rounds of AK47 ammunition and a sub-machine gun.
"We had an operation this morning... at a Boko Haram hideout (in the northern city of Kano). We made some arrests but details will be given later," Kano military spokesman Lieutenant Iweha Ikedichi told AFP.
