BREAKING! Boko Haram Heavily Attacks Damaturu In Yobe State
I Know one day God will save Nigeria from Shekau and his men. Most of us who do not live in the North really have little or no understanding of what is actually going on there. It’s like a war in some places, really really sad. These people have no place to go; it’s their town, their father’s town! Where they lived and grew. Why then will intruders just want them to leave where they only know, what they have laboured for all their lives for them to just take over. It’s really sad, just sad.
Damaturu in Yobe State is presently under attack as you read this. The attack started around 8pm this night. Just barbaric! Wicked!! Premium Times have a scoop on what is presently going on right now. Read it after the cut.
Damaturu, the Yobe state capital has again come under intense assault by suspected Boko Haram militants, barely a month after a similar attack killed many residents.
Residents and security operatives said the city is currently under heavy gunfire and multiple explosions forcing people to cringe in their homes.
Umar Haruna, a civil servant residing in Damaturu told Premium Times that the city and its residents have come under attack again.
He said the attack started at about 8p.m.
“We are under attack; gun shooting everywhere in Damaturu…we dont know what to do now,” he said.
A top security officer of the State Security Service, SSS, who refused to be because he was not authorised to speak, told our correspondent via SMS that “Yes, there is an attack going on here and I believe the soldiers and the police are containing the attacks.”
The attack is the second in the last two months on Damaturu.
The insurgents had launched a heavy attack on the capital on December 1, targeting the government house.
The attack was successfully repelled by the Nigerian security forces.

Dozens of people have
been killed in explosions during Friday prayers at one of the biggest
mosques in the Nigerian city of Kano, reports say.
'People screaming'
Some reports said there was gunfire in Kano after the explosions.
The rescue official, speaking to Agence France-Presse, put the casualty toll at 64 dead and 126 hurt, although this has not been independently confirmed.
One worshipper, Aminu Abdullahi, told the agency: "Two bombs
exploded, one after the other, in the premises of the mosque seconds
after the prayers had started."
He said the third blast was on a nearby road.One local reporter, Chijjani Usman, told Reuters he was "face to face with people screaming".
BBC Hausa editor Mansur Liman said one witness at a local hospital had described the scenes there as being the most horrible he had ever seen.
Our editor says Boko Haram will be the main suspects, as the attack bore all the hallmarks of the group.
No-one from the group has yet commented.
Boko Haram has stepped up attacks against civilian targets since the Nigerian military launched an offensive last year.
Boko Haram was also behind the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in Borno state this year, an act that sparked international outrage.

Nigerian Army Kills 200 Insurgents In Konduga
Boko Haram terrorists yesterday suffered a major defeat when soldiers repelled an early morning attack on
Konduga town, killing at least 200 of them, security sources said. According to an insider in Maiduguri, the terrorists were led by one notorious Amir, a top leader of the sect, who also died hours after he was picked alive with serious injuries. The officer said the insurgents, in their relentless bid to invade Maiduguri, were ambushed by the Nigerian soldiers in Konduga, 35km away from Maiduguri, and a no-mercy onslaught followed. “So far this has been the most successful outing in recent times, because we left no stone unturned,” said the officer.
“We’ve had hints in the last two days that they would be attacking Konduga with the intention of taking and using the town to launch a major attack on Maiduguri; we waited patiently for the day and, as God would have it, they came as expected. “Unfortunately for them, our men were fully mobilized for the engagement and we’re able to hold them for hours until every one of them dropped dead. “We counted up to 200 of them, including one that was attempting suicide bombings. We also shot dead their cameraman and recovered his camera; there were over 200 of their corpses littering everywhere.” The source added that six of the vehicles that the terrorists used were recovered and brought to the barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Another top military officer who also confirmed the Konduga attack to LEADERSHIP Weekend in a phone interview said “it is a big victory and our soldiers were disciplined and gallant all through the operation”. “It was what we can call ‘operation totality’, because we didn’t record one single casualty on our part and we ensured that not a single one of them escaped,” said the top soldier who wouldn’t want to be named in this report. The officer added that the Boko Haram kingpin who led the operation was recognized as one that fits the description given by one escaped retired soldier that was abducted by the Boko Haram terrorists sometime last year.
“The Amir was alive for some hours before he later died due to serious injury he sustained, but he was heavily bearded and huge, just like that escaped old soldier described to the security intelligence operatives while he was being debriefed. But the big news is that he is dead because we gathered he was one of the deadliest leaders in the sect,” the source said. Konduga wasn’t the only victory story for the Nigeria soldiers.
LEADERSHIP Weekend also gathered that another unit of the Boko Haram terrorists met its waterloo at a village called Ngom, about 15km from Maiduguri. According to a local vigilante official who preferred anonymity because the soldiers warned them against speaking on any military operation, “Our soldiers have made us proud at noon of today (Friday) near Ngom, a village market not up to 20km away from Maiduguri, when the insurgents attempted to invade Maiduguri through the Gamboru-Ngala highway. They were repelled by the soldiers. Many were killed and some of them ran away, abandoning their vehicles.” It was reliably gathered that the insurgents, perhaps in anger and frustration over their defeat in Konduga, tried to invade Maiduguri through the Gamboru-Ngala road. They attacked traders at the Ngom market, killing 13 members of Civilian-JTF and four civilians before the military arrived to repel them.
Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was woken by some friendly gun-shooting by soldiers at the outskirts of the city, along the Konduga-Maiduguri road. It was later gathered that the soldiers were reacting with friendly firing as they got the hint of the ongoing face-off with Boko Haram in Konduga. Military choppers continued to hover over the city all day, as residents began to worry over the tensed situation there. The scary atmosphere later simmered
when the victory news of Konduga and Ngom reached the city. The Nigerian Army confirmed the victory it recorded in repealing the insurgents through a signed statement by Colonel T.O Antigha on behalf of the director of army public relations: “At about 5:30am today, Boko Haram terrorists launched a massive attack on Konduga town, about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri. After about three hours of fierce fighting, Nigerian troops routed the Boko Haram fighting force of over a hundred terrorists.
“Further to the staggering loss of men, Boko Haram also suffered extensive losses in equipment. Specifically, three Hilux and one Buffalo vehicles with mounted anti-aircraft guns, three general-purpose machine guns, over 30 AK-47 rifles and two global positioning systems have been recovered. Four Nigerian soldiers were wounded in action. “The entire area is still being combed for terrorists who may have escaped with bullet wounds. Morale of troops remains very high.
Photographs taken at the scene of the battle are being expected and will be forwarded as soon as they are received.” The new development, according to the statement, is traceable to the directive given by the chief of army staff, Lt Gen Kenneth Mimimah, asking troops to liberate every town and village where the terrorists had declared their territory.

Soldiers Evacuate Families From Barracks As Boko Haram Drops Fliers About Plan To Seize Maiduguri
Families and non-military staff residing in two major military barracks in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, are being
evacuated after Islamist insurgents dropped letters announcing their
plan to take the most important city in Nigeria’s northeast region. The
letters were dropped at the gates of Giwa and Maimalari military
barracks as well as different parts of the city of Maiduguri.
Several soldiers also told SaharaReporters that some of their colleagues had fled the barracks after the letters were circulated amongst military personnel yesterday. A military officer at Defense Headquarters in Abuja said he was not aware of any desertions.
The letter detailing the planned attack on Maiduguri was written in the
Hausa language. It specifies that Boko Haram’s unpredictable leader,
Abubakar Shekau, planned to personally lead insurgent fighters to attack
Maimalari, the more formidable of the two barracks, and to fight to the
death as a martyr.
“Soldiers are moving their wives and children out because they should not be there if a battle begins,” a security source said.
Boko Haram appears emboldened by its success in capturing Bama, the second largest city in Borno State. The Nigerian army and officials of Borno State were so rattled by the insurgents’ seizure of Bama that they claimed for two days that the town remained under Nigerian troops’ control. However, a senior official of the Borno State government told SaharaReporters yesterday that there was no doubt that Bama had fallen to the insurgents. A senior United States official also acknowledged the capture of the town by insurgents, and disclosed that the US would provide logistical assistance to the Nigerian government to help secure Maiduguri.
Yesterday, the Islamist terrorists began an apparent push towards Maiduguri by killing some 30 people near Kawuri town. They now have just an army checkpoint in Konduga standing between them and Maiduguri, a city with more than two million residents.

After Shekau’s 25-minute speech, the video shows militant fighters on pick-up trucks firing rocket-propelled grenades and other heavily armed insurgents firing weapons as they walk calmly along the road.
The footage appears to show them taking over a military base, stealing weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition as well as fuel cans.
In one frame, a fighter stands on top of a tank, waving the Islamists’ black flag.
The end of the video apparently depicts scenes of grisly executions, similar to those released by IS in recent weeks. Boko Haram have used similar tactics before, however.
In one scene, about 20 men in civilian clothing are shown with their hands tied behind their backs and lying by the roadside before they are shot at close range.
A second shows two men, whom Shekau said disguised themselves as women to escape the town, beaten to death with shovels. Two others similarly dressed are shot beside what appears to be a trench full of bodies.
